A message from our principal

Cindy Stock

Grant Wood Elementary, established in 1951, is nestled in a small neighborhood in the southeast quadrant of the city. Our school was named after Iowa’s famous artist, Grant Wood.

Our staff is committed to providing a safe and caring environment in which all students can access the academic, social, and emotional support necessary to become kind and productive citizens. We are proud of our strong diversity and value the opportunity it provides our students and families to cultivate an acceptance and appreciation of the larger society.

Volunteers and community partnerships greatly contribute to our educational efforts. Each year our students and staff benefit from thousands of volunteer hours. Our volunteer support consists of current and former parents and grandparents, former staff and students, Washington High School students, community members, and our amazing PTA. Additionally, we are grateful to HyVee – Mount Vernon Road and AmeriCorp FoodCorps for their partnerships and the support that they provide our school.
